Steve Paxton studies movements of the body, contact improvisation techniques and aikido. In the middle of the Seventies he introduced a new dance form, a combination of martial arts, sport and social dancing. An ex-member of Merce Cunningham's company, he explores all movements from the pelvis to the fingertips. With Contredanse, he made the book + DVD Material for the Spine, and the video installation Phantom Exhibition. Images suggesting gravity and balance take us into the world created by this American pioneer in contact dance. Steve Paxton comes to Brussels to give a lecture and to inaugurate his exhibition.
