Dominique Brun

Le Poids des Choses & Pierre et le Loup

Choreographer, dancer and teacher Dominique Brun complements the proposition of composer Sergueï Prokofiev. Peter and the Wolf teaches children and grown-ups alike to recognise orchestral instruments by ear by associating them with the characters in this musical tale: the flute plays the theme of the singing bird, the bassoon is the grouchy grandfather, the violins play the young hero in the story and so on. Here Dominique Brun identifies the characters by the qualities of their movements. The light dancer who turns
in continuous circles is, of course, the bird, the one tapping his skipping feet on the floor is Peter while the one gliding silently in the space is the cat with its velvety paws. Without realising it, the audience becomes adept in the art of watching and describing the movement, in terms of time and space, intensity and effort, without losing anything of Peter’s adventures. With the bird’s help he succeeds in capturing the wolf at the end of a funny, lively and fascinating.
